ONS Chapter Updates, News & Dates

Important Update on Chapter Membership Model We've set up a special page (see tab to the left of the page) for the new universal Chapter Membership Model where you can find the revised ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ (FAQ) document that addresses most questions related to the model.  The revised FAQ will remain posted on the Chapter Membership Model page throughout 2013.  We've also added a Chapter Membership Model powerpoint presentation for you to use at your meetings.  As we move forward with the transition, which is expected to be completed by July 1, 2013, we will keep the chapter leaders posted on all major developments. All chapters should have stopped collecting chapter dues on May 1, 2013.  Thank you.

Chapter Leadership Workshop (formerly called 'Mentorship Weekend'), July 26-28, 2013, Pittsburgh, PA.  Registration is now open, but make sure to register by June 10!! (see link on left for more details!)

May 2013 Chapter e-Newsletter is now available!  Attention all chapter board members: if you did not receive the e-news, please contact chapters@ons.org to add your name/email address to our distribution list. Past issues can be found in our e-News archives.

Attention Treasurers, Program Chairs, and any other chapter board position who may deal directly with our insurance broker to obtain special event coverage and other special insurance needs: ONS has changed insurance brokers.  Effective immediately, our new insurance broker is Hays Companies.  Please direct all inquiries to Hays Companies, attention: Randy Miller (rmiller@hayscompanies.com) or Deb Moylan (dmoylan@hayscompanies.com), or call: 1-800-647-4297.  We have posted a Chapter General Liability Insurance request form, along with the Certificate of Liability Insurance document for your information (these can also be found on the Chapter Documents and Forms link on the left).  Also, please delete all references to our former insurance broker, McGroarty & Bradburn, as they no longer represent ONS.  Thank you!

Looking for documents, forms, or other chapter resources? Check out the Chapter Documents link on the left side of the page for quick access to all ONS chapter resources!

Due Quarterly: Updated chapter membership rosters (to be sent to chapters@ons.org).

The Independent Learning Needs Assessment (ILNA) Certification Renewal Method - The Individual Learning Needs Assessment (ILNA) method is the certification renewal method that will be used beginning in 2016. This method will help to ensure that every certified nurse has current knowledge in the subject areas represented by the credential.  Learn more by viewing the powerpoint presentation!

'Changes to Attendance at Promotional Dinners' - important update from ONS:Edge.

Attention California Oncology Nurses! Thinking of taking an oncology certification exam through ONCC? If so, now's the time to do it, as the Masons of California's By Your Side grants could reimburse you for up to $600 for your ONCC application fee, ONS membership, ONS local chapter membership, and an ONS online review course!

ONS Webcast on Pharma Guidelines

Pharma Guidelines Webcast
The ONS webcast “Changing PhRMA Regulations: Understanding Your Role as an Oncology Nurse,” is now available. As Chapter Leaders, we want to make sure you have access to the information your members need. ONS will continue to keep you informed of new changes and additional information.

Has Your Chapter Considered Reaching Out Globally?

On a recent survey made available to both ONS members and potential members, the most important reason for ONS to be involved internationally was “to learn from colleagues outside the U.S.,” followed closely by “to partner with international organizations.”

You may be familiar with the Oncology Nurses Worldwide email partnership program or the International Tiered Membership category (an online membership) for ONS members from lower resource countries. But has your chapter considered taking an active role in partnering with international colleagues?

Many chapters have made memberships available to colleagues from lower resource countries, sent publications as needed/requested, and even sponsored international colleagues to come to Congress! Some chapter members are personally involved with oncology nursing societies in countries that are anxious to learn about topics like safe handling and prevention/early detection.

There are excellent and enriching ways to connect your chapter with colleagues and oncology nursing societies in all regions of the world, and your impact in many of these areas is significant! If you are interested in learning more, or hearing from ONS chapters who are involved in international outreach, please write to international@ons.org or visit the International Affairs page of the ONS Web site: http://www.ons.org/international.
