Breast Cancer Community Education Grants for ONS Chapters

Supported by the ONS Foundation through a grant from AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation. 

The purpose of this grant is to increase breast cancer awareness in communities by supporting nurse directed patient and community focused educational programs.


  • Program must be an ONS Chapter activity and focus on community education. 
  • Request for funding must be received by the ONS Foundation no later than 2 weeks prior to the start of the activity. 
  • Grant is not intended to support work based community education programs.  Program cannot limit attendance to an institution, hospital or hospital network, or nurse work setting.

Deadline:  Funding will be distributed on a first come basis to qualified Chapter Programs with strong programs based on application review.  


Annual Chapter Awards


The annual Chapter Awards program is currently under review. This is primarily due to upcoming major changes to the ONS database and virtual community platforms that are now underway. Expected completion date is late 2017/early 2018, at which time we will provide an update to the changes to the awards program. For chapter award purposes, the following chapter size categories were revised after the July 1, 2013 implementation of the Universal Chapter Membership Model.  ONS will use the following chapter membership figures for award purposes:

Small Chapter Category:  50 members or less

Medium Chapter Category:  51-99 members

Large Chapter Category:  100-199 members

X-Large Chapter Category:  200-399 members

Mega Chapter Category:  400 members or more

Emerging Chapter Leader Scholarship

The purpose of this award is to recognize emerging oncology nursing Chapter leaders to receive an educational scholarship for up to $1,200 to attend the 2017 ONS Congress.

Recipients will receive an educational scholarship for up to $1,200 to apply toward the 2017 ONS Congress.  Individuals living within a 50 mile radius from Denver Convention Center are only eligible for conference registration.
