Tomorrow By Developing Nurses Today
SUMMARY: Support from the ONS Foundation and sanofi-aventis U.S. has enabled ONS to provide ONS Chapters with resources to conduct local outreach to students to encourage careers in oncology nursing. This project will directly impact 100 student nurses who are currently planning their careers.
EXPECTATIONS: By a chapter accepting this project, ONS expects that each chapter will report on the activities of this program. This will include the goals, outcomes, and impact to the chosen student. It is also expected that each chapter will choose a student in an unbiased, application based process. The first 100 eligible chapters will receive the following:
- $125 Stipend to cover the cost of a student membership with your chapter as well as chapter meetings for the year.
- A voucher for the chosen student to take the ONS Cancer Basics Course.
- ONS Career Resource Guide to educate the student on oncology as a nursing specialty career.
- A Job Shadowing & Career Resource Guide to help the chapter develop a sustainable student outreach program.
